Pride and the Duke
By Diane Queenston
Jane Pride is a young woman living in London in 1820. She’s desperate for work and hears of a duke in the Welsh hills who needs someone to catalogue his medieval documents. She eagerly sends him a letter offering her services for a small fee. Duke Raven is a lonely man isolated in an estate in Wales who has just received a letter from a young woman who wants to come and work for him. She had heard he has plenty of ancient manuscripts which need cataloguing. Duke Raven in intrigued. He’s guarding a few secrets of his own and a young woman coming into his service might just be what he needs. Jane has travelled all the way from London to Wales to come and work for the handsome duke who has accepted her offer of employment. Why is he never seen in the daytime and what was he doing slipping out alone at night? Duke Raven is very impressed with Jane and wants her for reasons other than cataloguing old books and papers no one cares about. He’s got a whole trunk full of books and manuscripts he doesn’t show people, but maybe tonight Jane will find out what’s in the trunk.
